new child care facility
A Dream Becomes Reality!
In the spring of 2011, a 'new building committee' was formed from the existing daycare board, community members, school representatives, as well as members of the Wawanesa Community Development Corporation. With a waiting list longer than our enrollment, we decided it was time to forge ahead and take on the task of a new facility.
Through the Family Choices Building Fund, Wee Care's new facility will be 100% funded!
The new facility will house 4 infant spaces (currently we do not have space for infants), an additional 16 preschool spaces to total 32 preschoolers, as well as 15 school age spaces, for a whopping total of 55 spaces available, comapred to our current 31. 16 preschool/kinder spaces will remain in our current space in the school, and the new 16 spaces as well as infant will be located in the new building.
Land was purchased from the Wawanesa Turf Club, adjacent to the school, so our 'prime location' was not sacrificed. The purchased lot is already home to many tall shady trees, to enhance our future natural outdoor playspace.
The Board and Building committee could not be more excited, or greatful, to have the support of the Village Mayor and council, as well as the community itself. Wawanesa is a growing community that has recently attracted many young families who will benefit from the new spaces.
In addition to creating more spaces, a new facility means creating more jobs in our community, and adds to the value of living in Wawanesa.
